Families, this has been quite a year! As you know, schools closed on March 17th, forcing us to re-design how we educate students at GATES and across the country. Since the closure, we have met daily as an instructional team to ensure that all students had access to technology and support in order to continuously learn, as well as engage in new learning for terms 7 and 8. We know what a hardship this has been for many families. We have sincerely appreciated the opportunity to partner together and want you to know that we are here for you.
On June 11th, we celebrated over 60 seniors who walked across the graduation stage. It was wonderful to see so many friends and families share in this celebration, as well as the graduation parade which took place later in the evening. A video production has been created to honor all our seniors and will available for viewing on June 20th. Keep an eye out for details which will be posted on our Facebook and school webpage.
Many of our sophomores and juniors have been working very hard as well. Those who completed course work during the school closure will receive credit. Those who did not complete course work will receive an “Incomplete” and will need to complete the course work next fall to earn credit. Students who have not engaged in school or shown any evidence of learning, will not have any courses reflected on their transcript and will not receive a grade.
I am sure, many of you returning have questions about next year. As health remains our highest priority, there will be changes in how we deliver instruction. We will be working very hard over the summer to determine the best way to provide our students a quality education while ensuring health and safety for all. Thank you for the opportunity to know and educate your child, we sincerely value the relationships with our families and community and are here to serve you. Please feel free to call me personally if you have questions, concerns, or comments regarding your child’s education. Please be well and enjoy your summer.
