Students Help Plant Trees

January 17th Gates High School science students in conjunction with Pierce County planted 8 native species trees on our back campus near the creek. The purpose of planting the trees is to improve the riparian area along Clover Creek as well as improve and preserve the prairie land that surrounds it. The trees will provide shade for the creek which will help plants and animals survive over the summer. Jess Stone & Stephanie Leisle from Pierce County worked with our administrators, Mrs. Jones & Mr. Nolan, the district facilities department and our science teacher, Pat Calcote to coordinate the planting. The students in Mr. Calcote’s Environmental Science classes selected which trees to plant based on classroom research.
